Player sponsors and executive box holders dined with the Leicester Tigers first-team squad at a pre-season meet and greet BBQ at the club training ground.

The sun shone on Oval Park as the sponsors watched Tuesday afternoon’s training session as the squad prepare for the opening game of the Aviva Premiership season away to Gloucester Rugby this Friday evening.

They were also treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the training facilities, an introduction from chief executive Simon Cohen and a Q&A with director of rugby Richard Cockerill, as well as the chance to talk to the first-team squad ahead of the big kick-off.

Cohen said: “We are hugely grateful for the support of all of our sponsors, player sponsors and supporters. We are investing massively on and off the pitch at the Tigers and their support helps to keep us at the forefront of club rugby.”

Paul Bratton, of SDC Trailers in Mansfield and County Antrim, one of Europe’s largest trailer manufacturers, sponsors Brendon O’Connor.

Paul, who was at the BBQ with his son Eliot, said: “There is no other team that does the closeness with the players that Leicester does. For my clients and colleagues, it’s a unique opportunity to get closer to the players and to see a bit of the inside of rugby’s most successful club.”

Sean Smith, of Whetstone-based AVW Fabrications, Telusa Veainu’s sponsor, added: “Tigers are my local club. There is always a good, friendly, family atmosphere and we do feel by giving a little back we are involved in the club and part of the Tigers Family.”

Sean introduced his sister, Tanya Hextall of Total Industrial Engraving in Leicester, to player sponsorship this season. Total Industrial Engraving are sponsoring Sam Harrison and Tanya said: “Sam is Leicester lad and reflects our values. It’s exciting with the season about to start and we’re all looking forward to it.”

Petar Cvetkovic is a long-time supporter of the Tigers and his company DX (Group) has been a familiar name in recent seasons along the touchline in front of the Holland & Barrett Stand and on the backs of warm-up bibs.

DX (Group) sponsor Fraser Balmain and Adam Thompstone, while Petar personally sponsors Dom Barrow, Ed Slater and Michele Rizzo.

“Rugby is a great sport,” Petar said. “It gives you team values and personal values. The Tigers epitomises that. I have been supporting all of my life and this is what it is all about.”

There are still very limited opportunities for player sponsorship with the Tigers this season, including England internationals Freddie Burns and Mathew Tait.

Player sponsorship is an opportunity to boost your company profile with player sponsorship for the new season at the biggest rugby cub in the country.

It offers brand awareness online and offline through a mixture of events, brand placement and logo rights as well as player interaction and matchday experiences.
