Leicester Tigers have agreed a new deal with Charlie Clare.

The hooker has made 68 appearances for the club since his debut in September 2019.

Clare made his way through the Tigers Academy ranks, as well as gaining England age-grade honours, before departing for spells with Northampton Saints, Nottingham, Jersey Reds and Bedford Blues.

The Norwich-born front-rower returned to Tigers ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, making his senior debut in the opening rounds of the season, and has gone on to feature as a mainstay throughout the past four seasons.

Clare came off the bench in the Gallagher Premiership Final win over Saracens and, this season, has made 15 appearances.

Speaking about the renewal, Leicester Tigers Head Coach Richard Wigglesworth said: “I am so pleased for Charlie to get this new contract.”

“He is a player that understands what the club is about and is such an important part of the group; he glues the group together as a key figure.

“Charlie has been a consistently high performer during the past few seasons and his on-field growth has been what has most impressed me.”

Discussing the new deal, Clare said: “I have been improving but feel like I have lots more to improve and this is the environment to do that.”

“There are great characters from all over the world, with all different experiences in this group and it’s great to be around.

“It’s an honest environment, a hard working environment and every day we have a purpose.

“We’re driven by people who work incredibly hard and want to work incredibly hard for one another.”
