They won the North West Leicestershire title after beating Ashby Hill Top Primary School in the final at Welford Road before Tigers’ Heineken Cup win over Benetton Treviso.
St Clare’s beat fellow Coalville school Belvoirdale Community Primary 8-5 in their semi-final to book a place in the final against Ashby Hill Top, who beat Measham CofE Primary School 6-4 in the other last four game.
St Clare’s then edged an open and entertaining final against Ashby Hill Top 9-7. Measham finished third with a 4-2 win over Belvoirdale in the third/fourth place play-off.
Tom Kittendorf, Tigers rugby development officer, said: “The children took part in four excellent games of rugby, which were all played in a fantastic spirit. The overall standard of the four teams was exceptional and their discipline and effort was a credit to themselves and their schools.”
St Clare's now go through to represent North West Leicestershire at the end of year finals, which will take place at Welford Road before the Guinness Premiership game against Sale Sharks on Saturday, April 4.
Players from all four teams were rewarded for their excellence in this season’s competition by becoming the first recipients of the new Tigers Community Special Achievement Medals.
The medals have been launched to recognise youngsters’ effort, hard work and dedication to achieve success on the field or in the classroom in Tigers’ community programmes.
St Clare’s were awarded a gold medal , runners-up Ashby Hill Top collected silver with Belvoirdale and Measham landing bronze.
Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: “The medals will now become an integral part of our daily community programmes and they will only be given out to those individuals or teams who really stand out from their peers.
“There will be gold, silver and bronze medals for each member of teams who make the final stages of our programmes at Welford Road. We also expect to use them on our rugby course programme for those who excel during each week.”
