Stanko backs Genge in Pumas test

Boris Stankovich says England's tour of Argentina will be a great experience for Ellis Genge in his development as a prop.

Genge is included in England’s starting line-up for the opening Test this weekend after an eye-catching first full season with Leicester Tigers in which he was voted Young Player and Newcomer of the Season by supporters.

Stankovich, a loosehead prop who enjoyed playing success with Tigers and returned this season to work with the scrum, says Genge will be tested by the Pumas and their emphasis on the scrum.

But he believes the 22-year-old Tigers prop will rise to the challenge after starting for England in the non-cap game against Barbarians at the end of the domestic season.

“The England tour is going to be a very good experience for him,” said Stankovich. “It will be a demanding tour, simply because the Argentinians have a philosophy built around the scrum.

“It shouldn’t be anything new for Ellis, but it will be at the very highest level.

“This is the next step for him and I’m sure he will rise to the challenge and be better for it.

“Ellis has been like a sponge, taking in all the information and learning. He is only going to get better.”
