Steve says thanks to players and fans

Steve Borthwick thanked players and supporters for the effort they put into Saturday’s win over Worcester Warriors at Sixways.

A fifth win of the Gallagher Premiership season featured seven tries – from seven scorers – as Tigers took five points from a 48-3 victory and head coach Borthwick shared his appreciation at the final whistle.

“I was really pleased with the players, their effort was great, they earned that result and, as I always do, I thanked them for all of their efforts. They work hard every day,” said the head coach.

“I also thank the supporters, I thought they were magnificent today.

“There was a good contingent of Leicester Tigers supporters here and they really made themselves heard. The players really appreciated it.”

Julián Montoya and Matías Moroni scored in their first starts of the season while Nemani Nadolo, Freddie Burns and Richard Wigglesworth claimed a first of the season. Harry Potter ran in his third and Nic Dolly his fifth as Tigers maintained an unbeaten run.

“There were good things in the game,” added Borthwick.

“We saw some growth in some areas and there are others to work at.

“There were some tough spells. Look at the start of the second half when we go from failing to convert an opportunity and giving away a penalty on their goalline to being on our own goalline with 14 men for 10 minutes. You can’t do that.

“We fought hard, we came through it but we need to be better than that.

“I just concentrate on how to get better. I say to the players, ‘Enjoy the win, you earned it, you worked hard’ and then we come in on Monday and we talk about Sale Sharks.”

Tigers host Sharks at Mattioli Woods Welford Road at 3.00pm on Saturday. Tickets, matchday bus places and car-parking are available to book now.
