Straight back to work for Tigers

Pat Howard and his staff were straight back into work this morning after the euphoria of winning the Heineken Cup semi-final against Llanelli Scarlets on Saturday.

Tigers gained their first win at the third attempt at the Walkers Stadium thanks to tries by Andy Goode, Shane Jennings and Louis Deacon to set up a Twickenham final on May 20 against Northampton Saints or London Wasps, who are involved in the second semi-final this afternoon.

Tigers chief coach Howard, though, will not be at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry to watch that game, as the Leicester squad have work to do ahead of the Guinness Premiership date with Bristol on Tuesday evening.

"We have the guys who are involved in the Bristol squad doing training on Sunday," said Howard as he aimed to strike a balance between the celebrations of a momentous victory and the needs of a league campaign which is nearing its conclusion.

"We took it lightly last week after the EDF Energy Cup Final and we have to manage the squad, we have still got some key Guinness Premiership games to go this week," said Howard.

"It is going to ask a lot of questions of our squad but it also presents opportunities for guys to put their hands up and say they deserve a place."

Howard faces a quick turnaround for the trip to Ashton Gate which was re-arranged due to Tigers' involvement in the EDF Energy Cup Final. He will be without prop Martin Castrogiovanni who has a hamstring injury, while Marcos Ayerza serves the final match of his suspension.
