Leicester Tigers hosted an exciting under-11 and under-12 grassroots development festival this weekend, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.

This successful series of nationwide events, now in its ninth season, has seen nearly 68,000 children take part to date and continues to grow, providing development experience for young players to excel in a professionally-run environment.

The under-12 competition was a fantastic spectacle with highly competitive fixtures providing a meaningful platform for youngsters to develop their rugby skills. Sides played impressive rugby, showing great spirit right up until the final whistle.

In the under-11 festival all teams displayed fantastic resolve and demonstrating the core values of the game throughout – teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship.

Participating players also had the opportunity to meet Tigers player Harry Wells who took time out of his schedule just a day after playing in the Cup win over Newport Gwent Dragons at Welford Road to watch the young teams as well as offer some coaching tips between games.

Juan Gonzalez Mendia, community manager at Leicester Tigers, said: “We would like to sincerely thank Oakham Rugby Club for their hospitality and for putting together such a great team of volunteers to help out with the occasion.

“In addition, I would like to thank Premiership Rugby and Land Rover for their support and for making these days memorable for the children. Finally, a massive congratulations to all the players for giving their absolute best and for adhering and promoting the ethos of rugby throughout the day.”

The young players of Spalding under-12s came through as winners on the day and collected their prize of a trip to Twickenham for the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final on May 27. Joining them will be Lichfield under-11s who were randomly drawn from all of the teams playing in the under-11 festival, collecting their prize of a trip to the final courtesy of Land Rover.
