Successful year on and off the pitch

Leicester Tigers have announced another successful year, on and off the pitch.

In the year to June 30, 2007 the company's results showed:
- A record turnover of £15.2million
- Pre-tax profits of £204,000
- Net cash at year end was £3.9million

Commenting on these results, Peter Tom, chairman, said: "On the field in 2006/07 Leicester Tigers became the first club in the professional era to win the league and cup Double after success in the Guinness Premiership and EDF Energy Cup Finals at Twickenham, as well as reaching the final of the Heineken European Cup for a fourth time in 11 years.

"Although the company's turnover increased to a new high of £15.2million, further growth in revenues is limited by the current stadium capacity and facilities at Welford Road.

"To address this, we have plans in place to increase the capacity from 17,000 to ultimately 30,000. We hope to start the first phase of the redevelopment programme in the Spring of 2008 and this will increase capacity at Welford Road to 23,000.

"During the year we incurred significant costs associated with professional fees for the stadium redevelopment proposals. As a club, we also invested heavily in medical and support services for our players which resulted in fewer injuries and quicker rehabilitation and recovery from injury. We believe this was a major factor in the team's success in reaching an unprecedented three finals and winning two trophies.

"We have some ambitious and exciting plans for the future and we are confident that we can build our support base to enable us to achieve our key goals of continuing success on the field, financial stability and the redevelopment of Welford Road."
