The sun was shining for the start of the first-ever Tigers Rugby Camp at Stowmarket RFC.Tigers coaches are running a three-day camp at the Suffolk rugby club during the Easter holidays, with young players improving their game under the watchful eyes of the club’s community and Academy coaches.
Stowmarket hosts a contact camp for boys and girls in the under-nines to under-14s age groups and a tag rugby camp for under-sevens and under-eights.
Tigers Rugby Camps provide players with the opportunity to experience top-quality coaching in a professional environment. Coaching is provided by the Tigers community coaching team alongside some top senior Academy coaches and players past and present, including former captain and coach Ian 'Dosser' Smith and ex-hooker Troy Thacker.
They continue throughout the year at venues across the Tigers region, including the popular residential camp at Bishop Burton College (August 16-21).
With a focus on skill, game understanding and long-term athlete development, the residential camp is open to aspiring players aged from 12 to 17 on August 31. Participants can expect to be pushed to the limit and challenged at every opportunity and Tigers coaches will help young players progress and maximise their potential. Players will be continually assessed and evaluated with player feedback provided at the end of the week.
Tigers Rugby Camps head to Boston RFC in Lincolnshire and Newark RFC in Nottinghamshire during the May half-term (May 26-29).
The popular Tigers Masterclass series will return to Welford Road during May. There will be a girls-only Masterclass on May 29, and boys and girls will be able to take part in the Forward Play & Scrum (May 26) with former Tigers and England hooker George Chuter. Two-time European Cup winner Glenn Gelderbloom will take Attacking Play and Decision Making masterclass (May 27) and there is a Breakdown and Defence Masterclass too (May 28).
