Superb performance pleases Howard

Tigers' head coach Pat Howard unsurprisingly had no complaints with his side's performance after they picked up the Guinness Premiership title thanks to a 44-16 victory over Gloucester on Saturday afternoon.

"We played really well," said Howard, after watching his side out-score the Cherry and Whites by seven tries to one to claim their first league title since 2002. "It was great to turn up on the big day and we've been guilty of not doing that before. It was a very good performance and to repeat that next week is going to be a massive challenge.

"We're not a 40-point better side than Gloucester but we've been on the wrong end of similar scores in the last two Premiership Finals ourselves. They've been a good team all season and so have we, and I think the best two sides made the final. Thankfully, we played the better rugby on the day."

Howard and his side now turn their attentions to the third and final part of a possible treble as they prepare to face London Wasps in next Sunday's Heineken Cup Final at the same venue. With the squad in a bouyant but understated mood, Howard is confident that the players themselves will be ready for what will undoubtedly prove to be another massive test of their chaarcter.

"A few of the blokes have already talked about next Sunday, even having just got off the pitch. I don't know how the boys are going to turn up next week, but we'll try and get them in the best possible shape and get them very, very focused. The senior players take a massive role in that and I'm fortunate to have some fantastic leaders throughout the 22."
