Lote Tuqiri, Geordan Murphy and Ben Youngs touched down for Tigers in a 33-11 win, completed by seven successful kicks from seven attempts by fly-half Toby Flood.
“We showed some good composure to keep playing,” said Cockerill as Tigers stayed top of the Guinness Premiership table.
“We did some really good things, we are trying to play and we took our tries well.
“There were times when we were a bit slack and a bit disjointed, though we did not have a huge amount of preparation time with players away with England on Wednesday and having to freshen the guys up on Thursday and Friday.”
Club captain Murphy made his first start since the fourth-round draw at Bath during September, scoring his first try of the season during the second half.
“He’s a quality player,” said Cockerill. “When you don’t have him around for such a long time you forget how good he is, but you can see the class even in training. Some of his work with the high ball and kicking today were out of the top drawer.”
Tigers go to Northampton Saints this Saturday (6pm) before hosting London Irish, another one of the teams in the frame for the play-offs, at Welford Road on Saturday, March 6. Kick-off is at 5.35pm and tickets are available now.
