Team News | Tigers side to play Army Rugby Union

Leicester Tigers have named the matchday squad to play Army Rugby Union Women on Saturday, April 1 at Leicester Forest RFC in a special exhibition match.

The side features co-captains for this match, with blindside flanker Roisin McBrien and scrum-half Lucy Nye the two players to share the honour.

The starting front-row has only change from the last game, at home to Bishop Auckland, as Molly Sanghera re-enters the side at tighthead prop, with Rebecca Church and Samantha Williams at loosehead and hooker respectively.

There’s wholesale changes in the second-row, as Ella-Mae Fereday returns to pack down alongside Jade Jones, who hasn’t started at lock since the Loughborough Town home match in November, having been plying her trade at prop.

erThe back-row sees just one change, at the back of the scrum as Charlotte Fray moves from the second-row to No.8. McBrien and Morgan Richardson are named as the starting flankers, at blindside and openside respectively.

In the half-backs, Amy Relf and Lucy Nye reunite from the start for the first time since the home game to Kenilworth five weeks ago. In that time, Nye has represented the RAF in matches against Tigers and the Royal Navy whilst Relf has occupied both the 9 and 10 shirts.

In the centres there’s a pair of returns, Abi Gordon shifts inward to inside-centre from her last start for the side, whilst Holly Williams shifts outward from her last start to move to 13.

Finally, the back-three features Louisa Burgham and Zoë Evans as wings, the two having not started together in 10  weeks, since the home game against West Park Leeds on January 21. Harriet Roberts retains her place in the starting side but moves to her more familiar full-back position, having started on the wing against Bishop Auckland and being named to start there in the cancelled match at home to Barnsley.

As this is another exhibition match, the third for the team this season after victories against the Police and the RAF, which allows for a wider squad involvement in this one, with a 23 woman squad named rather than the usual 22.
