Tigers Academy at Welford Road on Saturday

Manager Neil McCarthy hopes the incentive of playing at Welford Road this Saturday can help to bring out the best in the Leicester Tigers Academy team.

Tigers host Worcester Warriors in National Academy League action, with the switch to Welford Road providing a perfect platform for the teams as well as an opportunity for supporters to see a new generation of players.

“We think the opportunity to play at Welford Road provides a big incentive for the players and also a key part in any young player’s development,” said Academy manager McCarthy.

“All of our games at Welford Road have been well supported and we’ve had some excellent games in recent seasons against England and Wales age-group sides as well as playing the National Academy League fixture against Gloucester there last season.

“It’s great for the players of both teams to run out on such a big stage and it would be great to see a big crowd for the game too.”

Tigers won all six fixtures with bonus points in the inaugural National Academy League campaign in 2012/13 and got this season off to a good start with a bonus-point victory over Sale Sharks.

The Worcester fixture is the first of back-to-back league games at Welford Road in the build-up to Christmas with Northampton Saints making the trip on Saturday, December 21.

Kick-off for both fixtures is at noon. Admission for all supporters is free in the Holland & Barrett Stand. The ABC Bar will be open. Car parking is available in the Crumbie car park.

The first-team are involved in away fixtures on both weekends so, if you are unable to travel to games against Montpellier or Saracens, why not get down to Welford Road for some Tigers matchday action?
