Tigers at Leicester Mela festival this weekend

Leicester Tigers will be joining in the fun at one of Leicester’s most anticipated cultural festival of the year as the Leicester Belgrave Mela returns this Sunday, August 18. 

The Mela offers ‘a glittering mix of live music, dance, food, fashion arts and culture’ and Tigers will be on hand to showcase just why Leicester is the home of rugby.

Tigers will be on site from 11.00am until 6.00pm with competitions for young and old to get involved with including Fordy’s Kicking Challenge and the chance to win prizes with Welford’s Wheel. 

There will be delicious Indian cuisine on offer and the chance to find bargain at the famous Mela Bazaar, with live entertainment on the main stage throughout the day, 

This year has seen the growth of Leicester Tigers Swifts team providing opportunities for youngsters within the black, Asian minority ethnic communities.

Alongside a free weekly rugby training programme for young players, the teams were also invited to play on the famous Welford Road pitch in for many what was their first ever competitive game.

Tigers rugby development officer Sam Johnston will be meeting fans and visitors on the day, as the club looks to a new season with an U11s side. 

Next season will see the Swifts training sessions move to Judgemeadow Community College from Monday, September 9 between 4.30pm – 5.30pm.
