Tigers feature in Opta Rugby Rankings

Telusa Veainu made more metres than any other player in Round One of the Aviva Premiership, according to official statistics.

Veainu, the Leicester Tigers full-back, made 133 metres in Sunday’s game against Bath Rugby at Welford Road in the Opta Rugby Rankings.

Teammate Jonny May made a total of 88 metres on his way to scoring two tries on his debut in the 27-23 defeat to Bath.

George Ford, meanwhile, beat 12 defenders in the game, the most by a player in the opening weekend of action in the Aviva Premiership.

Veainu was joint second with six defenders beaten.Sione Kalamafoni, another of Tigers’ debutants, made 21 carries in the game against Bath, a figure matched only by Courtney Lawes of Northampton Saints. Veainu and May made 16 carries each.

Back-rower Brendon O’Connor was the top tackler in the Tigers team with 16 tackles in the game.
