Tigers Foundation runners prepare for Leicester 10K

With the opening match of the Leicester Tigers season less than two weeks away, September 3 also marks the day our Tigers Foundation volunteers will take part in the first Asda Leicester 10K run.

Based at Leicester’s Abbey Park during the morning – ahead of the opening fixture of the league season against Bath and the Tigers In The Park event at Welford Road – training is well and truly underway for our runners.

The Leicester 10K, which has been organised by Run For All, starts in Abbey Park before heading across the Grand Union Canal and into the city centre, past the Richard III Visitor Centre and the cathedral before twice crossing the River Soar and finishing back at Abbey Park with a final lap of the park.

“We are all very competitive at the FitFans sessions and the Tigers Foundation helps to support our programmes so it’s great to be able to give something back”

Gill Conaron

Tigers community group FitFans have some volunteer runners taking part and we caught up with Gill Conaron to hear how her training is going.

Gill said: “I've had some very good training sessions followed by some that weren’t so good – but training is all about consistency. The longest I have run is 8.5km so far and I’m hoping to get close to 10k over the next few runs.

“I watched Mo Farah in the 10km at the World Championships and realised that he runs two-and-a-half times as fast as me!

“We are all very competitive at the FitFans sessions and the Tigers Foundation helps to support our programmes so it’s great to be able to give something back so they can to do more of the good work that they do in our local community.”

Tigers legend Rory Underwood will be attending the Leicester 10K as the official race starter and will be cheering on our runners.
