Tigers help Shepshed recover from fire

Leicester Tigers have been helping a local club get back on its feet after its rugby equipment was destroyed by fire.Shepshed RFC lost portable floodlights, tackle bags and post protectors in the blaze as well as cones, balls and bibs plus flagpoles and training spikes.   The fire, which happened in October, also hit Shepshed’s plans to start a children’s training section and grow the club.   To help them replace the equipment, Tigers offered Shepshed the chance to take advantage of the club’s Cashback initiative at Sunday’s Aviva Premiership clash with Bath Rugby.   The Cashback scheme, which is administered by Tigers’ Group Days team, allowed Shepshed to earn money for the club on every ticket they sold to the game.   Tom Pitt, of Shepshed RFC, was presented with a cheque for £275 on the Welford Road pitch during half-time of the 21-11 win against Bath.   Pitt said: “This amount will be huge for us allowing us to replace the basic equipment lost and get our kids coaching section up and running.   “Once completed, we hope it will secure the long term future of the club and allow us to grow and become a feature that the local community can be proud of.   “Our sincere thanks go to Tigers for their desire to help out a local club in need. We would encourage all local clubs to get in touch with the Group Days department and see what offers you can get as it is a fantastic way to raise funds for your club while celebrating the game of rugby within your club.”   Chris Rose, head of brand at Tigers, said: “We were very sorry to hear about the situation at Shepshed and, as a club which prides itself on its community links, we were very happy to help them get back on their feet.   “We wish them all the very best for the future and hope to see them again soon.”   For more information on the Cashback initiative, and on Group Days opportunities with Tigers, contact the Group Days team on 0116 2171 216 or email [email protected]
