Supporters kicked off the new rugby season in style with the events at Tigers In The Park on Saturday.

Now in its fourth year, Tigers In The Park is a free community event organised by Leicester Tigers around the opening game of the new Aviva Premiership season and based at Nelson Mandela Park and the plaza outside the club’s Welford Road stadium.

BMX champion Matti Hemmings was among the main attractions, leading workshops and providing demonstrations of his skills, and there was live music from 10am up to kick-off in the Tigers’ league fixture against Newcastle Falcons. Headline acts Stonepark and The Houndogs were joined by Chris Armson, The Fallers, Michael Vickers and The Zufflers, while the club’s matchday band Rock Bottom added to the party atmosphere on the way into the stadium.

Attractions for all age groups included the StubHub lucky turnstile with a top prize of a pair of tickets for the O2, Mark Group’s Kicking Challenge, the Junior Tigers Club’s Speed Pass Challenge with prizes provided by sponsors NEXT, STIHL’s tackle bag game, the Everards coconut shy, and Spire Hospital’s displays and competitions.

The newly-promoted Tigers Wheelchair Rugby Team warmed up for their new season with demonstrations and provided supporters an opportunity to try wheelchair rugby, and Tigers In The Park also featured appearances from Tigers players, Ride Leicester’s cycling advice station, mobile farm, birds of prey display, mini quad bikes, and inflatables and facepainting for younger supporters.
