Tigers matchday up for prestigious award

Leicester Tigers matchday experiences have been shortlisted in the Fan Experience category of TheStadiumBusiness Awards 2018.

In particular, the Junior Tigers Club and the Junior Tigers Club Takeover Day have been recognised by the sports industry as a leading matchday experience for fans. 

The Junior Tigers Club is a free fans membership for under-16s. Young fans are provided with a VIP area at Welford Road on matchdays with activities, games and a chance to meet Tigers players.

The Junior Tigers Club Takeover Day see's youngsters take on the roles of matchday staff such as a reporter, announcer, kitman at Welford Road for one match each season. 

Launched in 2010, TheStadiumBusiness Awards are the first industry awards for the stadium sector, by the stadium sector.

The Fan Experience category highlights the stadium, arena or major sports venue that has delivered consistently outstanding levels of service and fan experience at every stage of the customer journey.

Dom McGeever, marketing and promotions executive responsible for the Junior Tigers Club, said: “Coming to a matchday at Welford Road is much more than the rugby and the Junior Tigers Club has continued to grow in popularity every season.

“There are more than 40,000 members who receive e-newsletters, competitions, mascot places and money-cannot-buy experiences. They include our Junior Tigers Club Takeover Day, when we give young members the chance to take on matchday roles around the ground.

“This year’s Takeover Day will be take place when Tigers take on Northampton Saints on April 14.

“To be recognised alongside some of the world’s biggest sporting venues is something we’re all proud of at Welford Road.

“Our expert panel have come up with an amazing shortlist of nominees for these categories and we think it’s going to be tough for our judging panel to choose who should win.” 

The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground on June 12.
