Leicester Tigers have named their squad for Friday's JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership Rugby Sevens on home soil at Welford Road.

Tigers host the northern leg of the new competition and will come up against Leeds Carnegie, Newcastle Falcons and Sale Sharks on Friday evening, with the action kicking off at 7.30pm.

Forwards Matt Everard, Tom Armes and Jimmy Stevens, together with fly-half George Ford, will line up on Friday in their first appearance at Welford Road since victory in the Premier Rugby A League Final against Harlequins at the end of last season.

Everard and Armes both gained first-team experience last season, while Ford last season became the club’s youngest-ever first-team player and captained England Under-18s.

Academy manager Neil McCarthy takes charge of the team and is looking forward to some exciting rugby on Friday.

"Some of the senior Academy guys in the squad have experienced first-team rugby and are hungry to make an impression," he said.

“Sevens promises a lot of running rugby and on a summer evening we should be able to make the most of a firm pitch.

"We’ve got forwards like Matt, Armesy and Jimmy with decent pace and they came through a good year with the Academy and Development squads last season, so they’ll be keen to keep going, and we’ve also got some good pace in the backline so we’re looking forward to it.”

Tigers made a change to their original squad with Dave Hughes replacing Gerard Mullen.

Liam Holder, Rob Conquest, Luke Veebel and Rory Lynn, meanwhile, all gained experience with the Development XV which ended last season as A League champions.

Entry to Friday’s JP Morgan Asset Management Premiership 7s at Welford Road is free to Tigers season ticket holders, or £10 for adults and £5 for juniors. Season ticket holders can buy additional tickets for friends and family, and for every additional ticket they can buy a second at half price. Family tickets (2 adults, 2 children) are available for £25 and supporters can also take advantage of a ‘3 for 2’ offer.

Tickets are available now from the Tigers ticket office (open 8.30am-5pm all week and until 8pm on Wednesday). Or phone the Tigers ticket hotline on 0844 856 1880. All supporters will be located in the Caterpillar Stand.

Friday’s programme also includes extra family entertainment including live music from a Rihanna tribute act, fun and games on the pitch between Sevens matches, face in the crowd competitions and facepainters. Bars and food kiosks will be open throughout the Caterpillar Stand from 5.30pm.
