The fixture took place midway through Tigers’ French training camp and gave the senior squad some game-time as they build up to the start of the new season.
Thomas Waldrom, released from the England training squad last week, claimed Tigers’ only try of the first half, with Montpelier taking a 33-7 half-time advantage in Millau.
The French side added another score early in the second half before two quick tries from Tigers provided some impetus for the visitors.
First, Academy prop Camilo Parili-Ocampo pushed his way over from close range and then centre Andrew Forsyth provided an incisive break to burst through and score under the posts as Tigers trailed 40-19.
Flanker Tom Armes added the fourth Leicester try but Montpelier claimed another score in the final minute to seal a 50-24 victory.
Newcomers Mathew Tait, Kieran Brookes, Graham Kitchener and Julian Salvi were among the players to gain a run-out for Tigers.
Tigers complete their training camp this week before returning to action with a home fixture against more French opposition in the shape of Lyon OU at Welford Road on Saturday, August 20 (2pm).
Admission is free to season ticket holders. Tickets are available now to all other supporters. Book by phoning the Tigers hotline on 0844 856 1880, call in at Welford Road or book online.
