Tigers pitch in to clear snow

Work is underway to clear the snow from the Welford Road pitch covers in readiness for Leicester Tigers' Aviva Premiership game with Sale Sharks on Monday, December 27 (2pm).

The pitch has been covered since the Heineken Cup game with Perpignan on Sunday, protecting it from the three inches of snow which fell overnight and this morning (Wednesday).

The snow, which weighs more than 40 tonnes in total, has been swept to the side of the pitch in front of the Caterpillar Stand, which will allow the MacLeod heatdome to be inflated before tonight.

The snow will then be taken out of the ground by Tigers groundstaff and a Telehandler provided by main sponsor Caterpillar, before being taken off-site by a tipper truck supplied by Breedon Aggregates.

Charles Rayner, Tigers head of stadium operations, said: “It is a real team effort with help from our main sponsor Caterpillar, Breedon Aggregates and Leicester City Council. Everyone is pitching in.”
