Martin Corry, George Chuter, Louis Deacon, Ben Kay, Lewis Moody, Julian White and Dan Hipkiss are in Brian Ashton's 47-man group for training in Portugal.
Corry, who has been in two World Cup squads, said: "I'm looking forward to it, there is real competition for places and at this stage it is all about players getting their head down, doing the work and then hoping that you make the cut at the end of it."
Kay, a World Cup winner in 2003, said: "This is a vital period of the build-up and the coaches will see it as a chance to help the squad gel together. All you can do is try your hardest and if you get an opportunity in the warm-up games you have to put in a performance there."
Deacon is looking forward to his first taste of World Cup preparations, after making his England debut on the autumn of 2005.
"The training camp will be a great experience for me, though we know it is going to be hard work in hot conditions," he said. "For England, it is good to spend a lot of time together as the squad builds towards the World Cup."
Chuter said: "There is a lot of work to get through before the World Cup, with training and the warm-up games, but playing there would be the pinnacle of international rugby and a fantastic occasion."
The Tigers hooker also reserved praise for Hipkiss, who has been called into the senior national set-up for the first time after an impressive season with Tigers.
"I'm very pleased for him," Chuter said. "He was probably our form player for much of last season and now he has a great opportunity with England."
As well as the players, there are other Leicester links as England forwards coach John Wells, a former Tigers captain and coach, is to be assisted by Graham Rowntree, who left Welford Road to join the National Academy this summer.
