Tigers represent UK on Chinese cultural trip

Leicester Tigers joined teams from De Montfort University, Manchester Met University and Birmingham Central University in representing the United Kingdom during a cultural exchange event in China.

Youngsters and students from Agricultural University China, Beijing Normal University and United International College took part in a rugby 7s competition.

The fifth event of its kind in China, the week-long visit consisted of a 7s tournament, coaching conferences as well as cultural exchanges with universities and primary age pupils.

Leicester Tigers were invited through their work within club partner De Monfort University’s women’s and girl’s rugby teams.

Chris McAuley, women and girls rugby development officer at Tigers, has been responsible for delivering the programme, and joined the exchange to pass on his experiences and knowledge in coaching the game.

“Rugby is a growing sport in china and events such as this are all geared towards helping increase participation in the game.

“There is a definite interest in the game and its values and it’s been a fantastic experience for all involved to learn from one another and build relationships across the continent.
