Tiger Sports kick off Rugby Takeover Day

Leicester Tigers community visited Cottingham Primary school recently for a special Rugby Takeover Day as part of the new Tiger Sports Programme.

Tiger sports aims to offer a bespoke service to schools to deliver exciting and informative classroom and practical sessions across a variety of sports to schools, colleges and community groups when they most need it.

Led by Tigers sports development officer Charlie Hurley, Tigers hosted an assembly at the school before taking rugby taster sessions throughout the day to pupils.

Club mascot Welford also joined in the fun at lunchtime taking part in games with pupils.

Tom Stafford, PE Coordinator at Cottingham Primary, said: “The lessons have been fantastic with all our children engaged in the activities. The coaches were full of enthusiasm and made the sessions both fun and informative.

“Following on from the takeover day, children have been asking to do more rugby so it has been very beneficial to our school programme.”

Charlie added: “‘It’s great to be able to go and takeover a school for a day and deliver sport to a variety of age groups, who are all engaged and excited to get involved.

“Hopefully, it gives them a new love for rugby, or simply any other sport, which will encourage them to go away and participate at local clubs. It’s also a great chance to welcome them into the Tigers Family and give the children a chance to meet Welford.”
