Academy manager Neil McCarthy says the Middlesex Sevens will be a great experience for his young Leicester Tigers team.

McCarthy will take a squad of 12 to Twickenham for the competition, which takes place on Saturday.

Tigers take on Newcastle Falcons in their first game (kick off midday). They will be captained by flanker Matt Everard and include Sam Harrison, who made his first team debut in the Heineken Cup game at home to Treviso last season.

The tournament line-up features the 12 Guinness Premiership clubs as well as teams from The British Army, Help for Heroes, Kukri White Hart Marauders and ULR Samurai.

McCarthy said: “It is the biggest sevens competition so from that perspective it is a fantastic experience and will be a fantastic opportunity for the lads.

“Some of our players have never played senior rugby so it will be their first taste, then you have the whole occasion and playing at Twickenham. It will be an interesting mix and experience for them.”

Tigers: Jimmy Stevens, Matt Everard (c), Tom Armes, Finlay Barnham, Sam Harrison, Connor Smith, Gareth Clarke, Joe Cobden, Rob Conquest, Alex Lewington, Luix Roussarie, George Ford.
