Tigers stars to visit rugby courses

There is still time to book a place on a Tigers Rugby Course this half-term and meet some of your rugby heroes.

International stars Aaron Mauger and Lote Tuqiri will make an appearance at the course being held at Stoke RFC (February 15 to February 19) and their club colleagues Scott Hamilton and Craig Newby are scheduled to drop in on the course at Oakham RFC during the same week.

The players will pass on expert tips and answer questions as well as sign autographs.

Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: “Our coaching courses aim to give young players the chance to learn the skills and techniques to improve their game and the visit from the players is always popular and adds to the enjoyment of the week.”

Places are still available on the courses, which are supported by Mark Group. They are led by Tigers community coaches and are for children playing contact rugby from under-nines through to under-16s.

The young players will be challenged in every aspect and technical element of rugby including handling, lines of running, kicking, speed and agility, tackle and ball retention as well as game sense and tactics, and strength and conditioning.

Clarke said: “Most of the theory and practical coaching sessions we will deliver come straight from Tigers’ Oval Park training ground.

“Rugby is a simple game and should be fun at all times so we have developed our courses to reflect that.”

Every player who attends the course will receive a free ticket to a Tigers first-team game at Welford Road. They will also receive a Tigers Rugby Course T-shirt, rugby ball and drinks bottle.
