Tigers stay with England ahead of 'home' return

Six Leicester Tigers players have been retained in the England squad preparing for the summer series, beginning with next Sunday’s fixture between England A and Scotland A at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

The players have been in camp with head coach Eddie Jones and the national squad for the last week, with an updated squad announced today following the Gallagher Premiership semi-finals, ahead of meeting again today for the start of another week’s training.

Ellis Genge, the most-capped player in the original party with 28 Test appearances, is joined by Tigers colleagues Joe Heyes, Dan Kelly, Freddie Steward, Harry Wells and George Martin who earned his first international cap during the 2021 Six Nations.

England A against Scotland A – who have Tigers duo Matt Scott and the uncapped Cameron Henderson in their summer squad – is a 2.00pm kick-off at Mattioli Woods Welford Road next Sunday (June 27) and tickets are available now.

Book online or phone the Tigers ticket office on 0116 319 8888 (option 2).

A total of 36 players are included with the England squad, including seven from Premiership semi-finalists Bristol Bears and Sale Sharks.

Head coach Jones said: “We had a really good training week last week. We’ve now added some new players and are looking forward to working with them.

“We will treat the week as a Test week, everyone will work hard and be ready for a competitive game on Sunday.”
