Leicester Tigers is excited to announce the launch of a new community project for Leicester, ‘Tigers Tackle Together’, in partnership with Samworth Brothers and the Leicester Tigers Foundation.

‘Tigers Tackle Together’ is an initiative aimed at helping those in poverty across Leicester and the Midlands, through a campaign of food donations.

This campaign will begin next Sunday, December 3 at the club’s first-ever Premiership double-header at Mattioli Woods Welford Road, when the men’s team take on Newcastle Falcons in the Gallagher Premiership and the women’s team face a derby match with Loughborough Lightning in Allianz Premiership Women’s Rugby.

Prior to the match, volunteers from Samworth Brothers will be collecting non-perishable goods from the Tigers Family in order to help with those facing food insecurity who may rely on foodbanks.  All donations collected will then go to FareShare.  You can see a full list of items that can be donated below.

Head to the Leicester Tigers Foundation tent from 1pm on the Plaza to donate your goods and help tackle these vital causes.

20% of people in Leicester live in the top 10% of the most deprived areas nationally.  An estimated 38% of Leicester’s children aged under 16 years are classified as living in low-income families, while the percentage of children under 16 in Leicester living in low-income families increased from 30% (2014/15) to 38% in 2019/20.

According to Government statistics, over 1 million people across the Midlands live in poverty and struggle to feed themselves and their families. We want to help tackle that problem by coming together as a community to help drive donations.

‘Tigers Tackle Together’ is not just about raising awareness, it is also about taking action. When we have needed the Tigers Family to support us, they have always stepped up.  The club, in partnership with Samworth Brothers, will take an active role in supporting those most exposed to poverty.

By partnering with Samworth Brothers, one of the country’s largest food businesses, who share Tigers' community values, and Fareshare who are experts in tackling food insecurity, we want to join forces with all of Leicester and the Tigers Family to deliver a large-scale campaign.
