Leicester Tigers’ multi-sport initiative, Tiger Sports, is back up and running for schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and the wider community, and also looking forward to welcoming new groups in the New Year.
As schools gradually get back to operating in a normal way, the club is again getting behind the Tiger Sports project to encourage students and schools to try new sports while remaining active, healthy and inspired.
Tiger Sports is open to all age groups from Reception/Key Stage One through to college years and aims to engage through practical PE sessions, educational workshops and some classroom-based learning.
The project even gives schools and groups the opportunity to see behind the scenes at Mattioli Woods Welford Road as part of bespoke Inside Sport days which many schools had the chance to experience prior to the COVID-19 lockdown.
Charlie Hurley works in the Tigers community team and heads up the exciting programme.
He said: “Tiger Sports gives schools access to our wealth of experience, use of facilities and equipment, as well as the opportunity for youngsters to try out a variety of sports and activities” he explained.
“With lockdown measures and parents working from home, some children haven’t had access to the same opportunities for getting out there and being active, so it is exciting for us to be able to offer our services to enable them to do just that.”
So far this school year, Tiger Sports has worked with schools and assisted them in navigating through a very difficult time. From running curriculum P.E. to online sports classes, the Tiger Sports team have managed to overcome the barriers of the pandemic and ensured that schools, colleges and community groups have stayed active and healthy.
Tiger Sports combines more than 20 years’ experience in community sport, alongside fully qualified and DBS-cleared coaches. The club will also continue to work closely with schools and other learning providers to ensure a COVID-safe environment for all participants.
