Tigers welcome official club charities

The three official club charities for the 2014/15 season shared the season's opening day with Leicester Tigers at Welford Road on Saturday.

Each season Tigers adopt three charities and we were delighted to welcome representatives of the trio for the Aviva Premiership Round 1 match against Newcastle Falcons.

The three club charities for 2014/15:

Matt Hampson Foundation

Matt Hampson chose to Get Busy Living after sustaining his life changing injury in 2005. This is the philosophy behind everything the Matt Hampson Foundation aims to do:

We help people get busy living again after a life-altering injury, whether by helping them get back into sport or just assisting in making adjustments to their new life, we are there to help and support them on their chosen path.

All of our beneficiaries are getting busy living and we are very proud of this fact.

Our purpose is to inspire and support young people seriously injured through sport.

Our mission – GET BUSY LIVING – is to create a support network of people seriously injured through sport and their families to help each other by sharing knowledge and experiences.

Joe Humphries Memorial Trust

On October 4, 2012, Joe Humphries, a fit and healthy 14-year-old, collapsed and passed away while jogging in Rothley, just minutes from his home. Joe was a victim of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), a condition that often strikes without any warning.

Joe became one of the young people (aged 12-35) who lose their lives to SADS at the rate of 12 every week, that’s 635-plus every year in Britain alone.

SADS is a group of lethal heart conditions that can cause cardiac death in young people. These conditions can be treated and deaths can be prevented.

This staggering, unacceptable statistic has inspired family and friends to set up the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust (JHMT), with Martin Johnson CBE as patron, to promote awareness and reduce the incidence of SADS.

The Joe Humphries Memorial Trust will promote research into, and awareness of, SADS; promote education and training for young people and those who live and work with young people, into how to react to unexpected life threatening situations; and inspire young people to fulfil their potential and develop their talents.

The work of Joe’s Trust is a fitting tribute to a young man who in his very short life touched the hearts and minds of so many– just an ordinary Joe, with an extraordinary ability to reach out to people and who lived life to the full.

“It is easy to underestimate the value of a young person until that young life, so full of potential and goodness like Joe, is taken without warning. Sadly, we are just one of a growing number of families who have been affected in this way. No one should have to endure such pain and grief,” says Joe’s dad and chair of JHMT, Steve Humphries.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Every day in the UK, 910 people are told the devastating news that they have been diagnosed with cancer. That’s 37 people per hour sitting with a consultant and having to face the fact that not only has their world been turned upside down, but now they have to go home and tell family and friends.

Macmillan work to support not only the person who has been diagnosed but those around them.
By working in your local community in Leicestershire and across the UK, we provide practical and emotional support to families when they need it most. From the angels in the community which are our Macmillan Nurses, to the benefit advisors who help tackle the cost of cancer, we want to be there for your family every step of the way.

Cancer is the toughest fight most of us will ever face. And feelings of isolation and loneliness that so many experience make it even harder. Macmillan are there to provide expert one-to-one support.

No one should face cancer alone, and with your support no one will. Together, we are Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan are proud to be one of the official club charities and we need your assistance to help our families in Leicestershire.
