Leicester Tigers are delighted to see two of the club's Wheelchair Rugby team coaches join the Great Britain set-up as assistant coaches.

As part of the Leicester Tigers Foundation and teaming up with the Matt Hampson Foundation, the club plays in the UK league and joins forces with the existing Marauders club to play as Leicester Tigers in European competition.

Now the club is celebrating a call-up as Gb assistant coaches or Rob Tarr and Darren Matthews.

As a player, Rob Tarr represented GB from 1985-2005, including in three Paralympic Games, before his international retirement in 2005.

He said: “My one regret throughout my international wheelchair rugby career is retiring from the sport before winning a Paralympic medal, but I truly believe we now have a team with the potential to achieve this dream in Tokyo 2020 and I’m honoured to be part of the coaching staff.

“We will take one competition at a time and our first goal is set on the European Championships in Koblenz in June.”

Darren Matthews was previously a Northern Talent Coach and said: "Gaining the position of assistant coach to the GB Elite National squad is a massive honour that I find hard to put into words.

“To represent and coach the squad is a lifetime goal and I'm immensely enthusiastic about competing at the Europeans in June.

“I believe we can retain our position as European champions and take that effort forward to becoming medallists in the Worlds next year."
