Leicester Tigers Great Britain wheelchair rugby team representatives head to Sydney, Australia this week to compete in the World Championships on Aug 5 – 10.

Four Tigers stars have been included in the 12-man squad in Nick Cummins, Muhammed Islam, Jamie Stead and Gavin Walker.

Ahead of the tournament, we caught up with Muhammed and Nick to hear how the squad had been preparing.

Islam shared: “I haven’t visited Australia before and I’m looking forward to the journey as its a place I've always wanted to visit.

“The mood in the camp is great and we are all looking forward to an exciting competition. It’s great to be a part of the squad and we have a plan in place – so we can’t wait for the tournament to start.”

Due to injuries and illness, Muhammed missed out on the 2015 and 2017 European championships which saw Great Britain claim back-to-back titles. Islam will be hoping to follow the success alongside his Tigers teammates in the coming week.

He added: “It’s a huge boost having my Tigers team mates in the squad as we train and play together in the league."

Tigers team mate Nick Cummins is also excited to get underway in Syndey.

“This will be my first visit to Australia and I'm really looking forward to competing in a country with a great sporting heritage”, he says.

“We've got a great chance of success. This is the strongest GB squad that I've ever been a part of and the mood within the squad is great."
