Tigers will be better for the battle

Telusa Veainu believes Leicester Tigers will be better for Sunday’s hard-fought Aviva Premiership victory after being pushed all the way by Sale Sharks.

The lead changed hands eight times in a thrilling encounter at Welford Road, with Tigers scoring two tries in the final 15 minutes to finally secure a 35-27 bonus-point win, highlights of which are below.

Worcester Warriors arrive at Welford Road this Saturday, having moved off the bottom of the Aviva Premiership table with victory over Northampton Saints, and Veainu says the Tigers will be looking for improvements in performance.

“It was a frustrating match,” he said. “We couldn’t get any flow and they disrupted our ball. We just couldn’t string any phases together or get our shape right to play how we wanted.

“There are no excuses and hopefully we will be better next week with our combinations for what will be another tough game at Welford Road against Worcester.”

Veainu was voted the Lumbers Player of the Month for October by supporters, and his award was announced during half-time of Sunday’s game.

The Tonga international finished ahead of Ellis Genge and George Ford in the vote, and he follows Harry Wells and Jonny May in winning the award this season.

“I was definitely going to win that – no doubt,” Telusa joked. “But seriously, it could have gone to any one of those guys nominated, or others even. A big thank you to the Tigers fans for voting."
