Leicester Tigers Women's have won the Championship North 1.

The league title was confirmed following the cancellation of the fixture against Barnsley scheduled to be played on Saturday, March 25 at Oval Park.

The team will now be looking ahead to the Championship play-off series, which will take place in April.

This involves the top two from Championship North 1 and the top two from Championship South 1, with the semi-finals taking place on the weekend of April 15/16 before the Championship final on the weekend of April 29/30.

Dependent on the results of the next two weekends, Tigers will be facing one of Old Albanians Ladies or Thurrock Ladies, who presently occupy the second and third places respectively, separated by a single point.

If they win their semi-final, the team will then move onto the Championship final, where they will face the winner of Cheltenham Tigers and Bath ladies. Keep an eye on LeicesterTigers.com and our social channels for an announcement of the confirmed dates, times and venues for those upcoming matches.

When asked about winning the Championship North 1 title, Head of Women’s Rugby Vicky Macqueen said: “Its been a phenomenal season in terms of the growth of the squad and what we have managed to achieve. The whole squad have committed 100% to what has been asked of them."

"They have developed on and off the field, both as players and as people and have done the badge proud: I am beyond proud of what we have achieved!

"I want to thank every member of the squad for all their continued professionalism and incredible energy throughout the season. Our coaching team and support staff have been integral to our success, as has the support from Andrea, Chris and Scott giving us all the support we have needed.

"However, we are all about the next job and our sights are set firmly, firstly, on winning the play-offs before our attention turns to Premiership and our exciting new challenge!

"We always talk about our next job, both on and off the field and so our focus has to shift. Finally, we want to thank all of our fans for the phenomenal support this year and I look forward to hearing them all roar us on at Mattioli Woods Welford Road next season supporting our Premiership bid!”
