Lichfield Ladies kicked off their new season at the weekend, their first since the launch of support from the Leicester Tigers women's rugby programme.

Although they were beaten 31-19 by West Park Leeds in the Championship North 1, coach Vicky Macqueen said: "It was brilliant to kick off the season for the girls against our strongest contenders for the league. The team started brilliantly showing huge intent and desire to work hard, but in the second half the intensity slipped a little and we let West Park Leeds back into the game.

"We have so much potential and that excites me, we have some great natural ability and the team are learning fast, so I am excited to see what we can achieve this year “

As part of the club's women's programme, young players can join a Girls Rugby Camp hosted by Leicester Tigers this October. The community team will be on the road in Market Harborough RFC (October 19-20), Hinckley RFC (October 21-22) and Lichfield RFC (October 28-29).
