Tigers Women’s to take on RAF Rugby Union

Leicester Tigers Women’s Team will play against RAF Rugby Union in an exhibition match at Hinckley RFC on Saturday March 4.

With kick-off at 5.30PM, the side will be looking to keep their strong run of form going, form that sees them top Championship North 1 where they remain
The RAF have a proud history of success in rugby, the men’s side having famously boasted Tigers legends Rory and Tony Underwood whilst the women’s team have seen the likes of Tigers’ own Lucy Nye don the jersey in the past.

When asked about why this game is so important, Head of Women’s Rugby, Vicky Macqueen said: “It’s two-fold, we want to keep the momentum and our winning streak going but it’s also about testing ourselves and the opposition exemplify that. The opportunity to play against the RAF is an important one, they have many experienced players within their ranks. We are going into this game with the belief that they are the strongest side we’ll have faced this year but we feel that, ultimately, we are ready for that challenge.

We also want to continue to grow the game, so the opportunity to play the match at Hinckley RFC and their brilliant set up, is a great one. I actually started my career in rugby at the club, so it’s one that is near and dear to my heart. We want to give as many people as possible that exposure to top level women’s rugby and it’s been brilliant to play home games around the county.”
