Tigers would look closer to home

Leicester Tigers aim to be involved in several trips to Twickenham this season, but also hope that their supporters will not have to travel there for any Heineken Cup semi-final.

Venues for possible semi-finals are the subject of discussion between the participating clubs and organisers European Rugby Cup Limited, but Tigers would not favour a semi-final at the national stadium.

If Tigers manage to beat Stade Francais in the quarter-final stage at Welford Road on Sunday, April 1, they will meet either Llanelli Scarlets or Munster in the last four of the competition, with Twickenham among the possibilities to host the clash.

"We feel that Twickenham is an expensive venue and not the easiest venue to get to for the majority of our supporters," said Tigers managing director David Clayton. "We would prefer a more sensible option which is more convenient for our supporters. But, of course, we have to come through a very difficult quarter-final against Stade Francais first."

Tigers played their triumphant semi-finals of 2001 and 2002 at Vicarage Road, Watford and the City Ground, Nottingham respectively. The 2005 semi-final defeat by Toulouse was staged at the Walkers Stadium.
