Lavanini in squad for Springboks friendly

Tomás Lavanini has been included in a 28-man Argentina squad to travel to South Africa for a friendly against the Springboks at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.

Incoming Tigers lock Lavanini was not included in the Los Pumas side that hosted the Springboks in Argentina for their final round fixture in the 2019 Rugby Championship after playing in the first two matches against New Zealand and Australia during the opening games of this season's tournament.

Former Leicester squad members Pablo Matera and Felipe Ezcurra have also been named to travel to South Africa.

Lavanini was a standout performer for the Jaguares throughout the 2019 Super Rugby campaign, which saw the Argentina-based outfit feature in the southern hemisphere competition's final for the first time in their short history.

The Argentina international side conclude their preparations for the Rugby World Cup with the friendly against South Africa next Saturday (August 17) in Pretoria before their opening fixture in the tournament against France on Saturday, September 21.

The 26-year-old will link up with his new team-mates in Leicester at the conclusion of the World Cup in Japan.
