Leicester-born Eric first played for Tigers against Newport at Welford Road in 1935 after joining from Old Wigstonians.
He went on to make 44 appearances for the club either side of World War Two and also represented the county. During that time he scored three tries for Tigers and kicked five conversions and eight penalties.
Eric’s son, John, said: “He used to love the games against Coventry and Northampton. He also loved the trips to Wales, particularly Llanelli.”
During World War Two he played for Scottish Command.
“There was him and 14 Scotland internationals,” said John. “He is probably claiming it’s a cap!”
Eric returned for a brief spell at Tigers but work commitments took him to the north west of England where he played for St Helens until he was 42.
John said: “His abiding memories were off Welford Road being packed for the Barbarians. He would take me down when the touring teams were playing, we used to go whenever we could. I used to love the atmosphere.
“He continued to have a keen interest in the Tigers and visited Welford Road whenever he could.”
