TV’s Ant Middleton a hit with Business Club

Local businesses and business leaders enjoyed an afternoon with a difference at Welford Road as TV’s Ant Middleton headlined the second Business Club event of this season.

Almost 200 people packed into the Honours Suite in the Holland & Barret Stand to hear from the ex-serviceman, who rose to fame in 2015 as the chief instructor on the hit Channel 4 show SAS: Who Dares Wins.

The Business Club, in partnership with Mattioli Woods, is an exclusive membership inviting guests to the home of Leicester Tigers to hear from a variety of guest speakers, as well as make new business connections and enjoy a two-course meal.

After lunch and introduction from Tigers commercial director Andrea Pinchen, Ant took to the floor to speak about the lessons that have helped shape his life.

From his humble beginnings growing up, to the challenges faced in the forces, Ant shared how his military career was a stepping stone for self-reflection as well as gaining recognition from peers and superiors.

Middleton served in the army and the Royal Marines before being put forward for selection to the Special Boat Service. At one point, Ant recalled his time in a fire-fight where, as his role as a point man, he would be the first man in, but found himself frozen to the spot.

The simple act of the soldier behind him squeezing his shoulder was the reassurance he needed to know he had his team with him – no matter what.

Positive-thinking, a can-do attitude and a sense of purpose are all relatable in the business and sporting world and combined with Ant’s no-nonsense attitude ensured everyone went away from the event with something to think about.

The event concluded with a Q&A session, as he talked about his rise to fame and the introduction of women candidates for the new series of SAS:Who Dares Wins, before posing for photos and signing copies of his book for guests.

Leon Lloyd was the Business Club’s first guest speaker of the season back in November, entertaining guests ahead of Tigers Premiership Rugby Cup fixture against Sale Sharks.

The club welcomes international businessman and Tigers non-executive director Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham Kb to Welford Road on Wednesday, April 3.

As a member of the Business Club, guests will guarantee a place at upcoming events with the option to purchase additional guest places for single events.
