Fraser Balmain played a key role in the wins over Sale Sharks and Bath Rugby over the Christmas and New Year period. The tighthead prop made a big impact off the bench in the fightback at the AJ Bell Stadium and then anchored the scrum to good effect against Bath’s all-international front row.
This is Miles Benjamin’s second nomination for the Goldsmiths Player of the Month award. The wing was nominated for the Aviva Premiership Try of the Week for his neat finish against Sale, his fourth of the campaign. He was a threat against Bath Rugby making eight carries, beating two defenders, and also made five tackles and hit 10 rucks in defence.
Mathew Tait has been in good form in defence and attack. The full-back scored a try in the fightback at Sale Sharks that yielded a bonus-point win and also made a crucial try-saving tackle on Chris Cusiter during the second half.
The Tigers trio will be aiming to follow this season’s previous winners Harry Thacker, Jamie Gibson, Julian Salvi and Graham Kitchener.
The Tigers Player of the Month award is supported by Goldsmiths, the largest prestige and luxury jewellers in the UK, who are also official East Stand sponsors and official timekeepers.
