We meet again, Ospreys head to Tigers

Leicester Tigers have one final chance in this evening's home game against the Ospreys to tick all the boxes in their preparation for the new season.

The Ospreys head to Welford Road (7.45pm kick-off) in the second leg of the clubs’ pre-season head-to-head following a 26-21 victory in Swansea a fortnight ago. Since then, the Welsh side have had a week’s training camp in Belgium while Tigers went to Italy before settling back in at home.

Both sides will want to share gametime around their squad and Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill says England duo Dan Cole and Ben Youngs, along with South Africa wing JP Pietersen, will be involved after teaming up with the squad in Italy last week.

Pietersen only flew into Heathrow on the morning of the squad’s departure for Italy and watched from the sidelines with Youngs and Cole as tries from Jono Kitto (2), Manu Tuilagi, Adam Thompstone and Luke Hamilton secured a victory against Treviso.

“It’s all about getting prepared for Gloucester and the first league game next Friday,” said Cockerill. “We’re getting guys battle-hardened and up to speed.

“We’ve done some good things in both games so far and we’ve also learned about the parts where we need to get better.

“It’s going to be a very competitive season. We’ve been going pretty well so far but the only time you really know is when you start playing your league games.

“We’ve got a few bumps and bruises along the way and we’re looking after those, but we’ll get gametime into everyone who is fully fit and ready. JP Pietersen will play some part on Friday as part of his integration back into playing, and Ben Youngs and Dan Cole will be involved.

“It’s a good arrangement with the Ospreys, a side we don’t get to play in the league every season. We’ll look at a squad of 28 or 29 players, though unfortunately we’ve had to cancel the game with Nottingham. Now we have to focus all our attention on this game and on getting the squad right in time for Gloucester.”

Tonight’s fixture is included in Tigers season tickets. All games in the new campaign have been loaded on to existing season ticket cards, except for supporters who have changed seats or price categories who will receive new cards.

Match tickets are still available. Book in person at Welford Road, phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or click here to book online. A print-at-home service is available for all online ticket purchases, or pick up from the Collection Point on the plaza at Welford Road.

Turnstiles open at 6.15pm this evening and the Junior Tigers Club will be open in Final Whistle. For a full matchday guide, click here.
