We need to build momentum, says Youngs

Ben Youngs says the congestion in the middle of the Gallagher Premiership table makes each game more and more important as the weeks roll on in the 2018/19 season.

Looking ahead to this Sunday’s trip to Bath in Round 11, the Leicester Tigers and England scrum-half also believes last weekend’s bonus point win over Harlequins at Welford Road has injected much needed confidence in to the squad ahead of the trip to The Rec.

“It’s pretty congested in the middle of the Prem table at the moment, isn’t it?” said Youngs, before adding, “which really makes each game more and more important.”

“Everyone’s commitment was much better and everyone stayed in system which allowed us to defend much better for long periods."

“Last weekend’s win was good and helped give the group some much needed confidence.

“But, with that behind us, it’s really important that we use the momentum of the win to help us and utilise it as a springboard in to Bath.”

Youngs was also in high praise for the much improved defensive effort in the Round 10 victory, insisting that the hard work on the training paddock was paying off.

“We looked much better in the defensive set for sure,” he said.

“We’ve spent a lot of time on it and it’s something we’ve wanted to tighten up, because defence is something that shows the passion and pride of a team.

“Everyone’s commitment was much better and everyone stayed in system which allowed us to defend much better for long periods."

Youngs has been named to start at scrum-half in Sunday afternoon’s showdown with Bath, kicking off at 3.00pm and will be broadcast live on BT Sport as well as being available to follow on the Tigers App with Matchday LIVE.
