Graham Kitchener says Leicester Tigers were "always chasing the game" after Racing 92's fast-start to Sunday's European Champions Cup clash at Welford Road.
The French Top 14 side raced into a 14-point lead inside the opening 12 minutes of the final Pool 4 fixture. Tigers rallied and, thanks in part to the accurate boot of George Ford and a ferocious level of effort in defence, they hauled themselves level three times in the game before a late penalty sealed a 23-20 win for the Paris club.
"Giving them two scores early, we were always chasing the game," said Kitchener.
In conditions suited more for skiing than scrummaging, it was the big men of both sides who saw most of the action. The Tigers forwards went toe-to-toe with the giant Racing pack, and Kitchener said: "Our defence today was some of the best it has been this season. To score from a maul too, which we haven't been good enough at this year, it was pleasing."
