Tigers have won each of their opening fixtures in fine style with bonus-point wins against Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors, while Saints also scored a bonus-point win in their only league game so far.
Welford Road also hosted last Saturday’s fixture against Warriors as Tigers scored 10 tries in a 64-6 victory.
Forwards Jake Farnworth and Owen Hills both claimed a hat-trick of tries, with Wesley Douglas (2), Josh Bevan-Brown and Joe Maksymiw also on the scoresheet. John Hargreaves kicked seven conversions.
“The chance to play in a competitive fixture at Welford Road is a big step in the development of young players and we hope we can attract a big crowd for a local derby on Saturday,” said Academy manager McCarthy.
“We’ve had some excellent fixtures against international age-group sides from England, Wales, Scotland and France at Welford Road in the last few seasons and they’ve been big occasions for the teams and the supporters.
“A local derby in the National Academy League is another big game for these players.”
Tigers topped the northern conference in the inaugural National Academy League campaign in 2012/13, recording bonus-point wins in each of the six fixtures. This season a final has been added to the tournament for the winners of the northern and southern conferences.
Admission for all supporters is free in the Holland & Barrett Stand on Saturday and the ABC Bar will be open. Car parking is available in the Crumbie car park.
The first-team are on Aviva Premiership duty away to Saracens. If you’re not able to make the trip there, why not come down to Welford Road for some Tigers matchday action with the Academy in their final game of 2013?
