Welford Road welcomes Clare Balding for Business Club

Sports broadcaster Clare Balding OBE entertained guests at the first Business Club of the season at Welford Road.

More than 150 people enjoyed a lunch and afternoon in the 1880 Suite in the Holland & Barrett suite ahead of a talk from one of Britain’s most recognised sports broadcasters.

The Business Club, in partnership with Mattioli Woods, is an exclusive membership inviting guests to the home of Leicester Tigers to hear from a variety of guest speakers, as well as make new business connections.

Following an introduction from Tigers head of brand Chris Rose, Clare took to the stage after the two-course lunch and spoke about her career in both sport and the media.

Clare’s early life revolved around her families close links with training horses and horse racing – she herself was a leading amateur flat jockey and Champion Lady Rider in 1990.

She got her break in broadcasting in the early nineties and has gone onto to report on a variety of sports from Olympic and commonwealth games to BBC’s Grandstand show and was the face of the channel’s rugby league coverage.

Sharing photo from her life, Clare spoke of the ability to ‘break through the screen’ and ‘roll with it’ realising that ‘sometimes make it happen, and then let it happen’.

Now a strong advocate of women’s sport, Clare welcomed questions from the audience before meeting guests and posing for photos.

John Kelly from Mattioli Woods also presented Clare with her very own Leicester Tigers jersey with 'Balding' to thank her for her time.
