The Leicester Tigers HITZ group have crowned their own Master Chef following public voting on their creations in the kitchen.

With no direct contact due to the Coronavirus situation, Tigers’ community coaches have had to get creative to ensure Premiership Rugby’s award-winning HITZ programme continues to run, using rugby’s core values to help young people not in education, training or employment to gain new skills and qualifications, and progress into employment or further education.

The programme is delivered in partnership with Premiership Rugby’s official education provider SCL.

The HITZ team has set up learners on to an online platform where they can access maths and English sessions, link with the tutor and officer for ongoing support and also join in with enrichment activities. Among these was a cooking challenge involving not only the students but also their tutors.

Tigers HITZ officer Anthony O’Reilly said: “We set our learners the challenge to get into the kitchen and be creative.

“Using the online platform, students went head-to-head over a live stream, baking their signature dish. Then images of finished treats – from our students and the tutors – were then posted across Instagram in a live 24-hour poll.”

The chocolate glaze came out on top! Well done to all of the team who took part.
