Hard work paying off for Wells

Harry Wells feels he is improving with each game after making his first appearances in Europe’s Champions Cup.

Now the Leicester Tigers second rower is set to feature in the Anglo-Welsh Cup over the next two weeks after playing in the Round 5 and 6 fixtures at Castres Olympique and at home to Racing 92.

Wells, 24, who was part of last season’s Anglo-Welsh Cup-winning campaign, is eyeing the competition as a chance to improve and has challenged the younger players in the squad to use it to grow their games.

“It was massive to play in a couple of big European games,” said Wells. “It is invaluable going forward and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Every game I play I am trying to get better and improve as a player, which I think I am doing. I just want to try to solidify a spot in the first-team squad.

“Hopefully I will get a run-out in the Anglo-Welsh Cup again, keep playing, keep improving and get another opportunity to put my hand up to play in the Aviva Premiership games when they come up.

“The more game-time you play the better you are going to get, and I think that is going to be important for other younger lads coming through as well to try to grasp the opportunity.”

Cardiff Blues visit Welford Road this Saturday for a Round 3 clash in the Anglo-Welsh Cup. Kick-off is at 3pm. The game is included in the Tigers season ticket. Match tickets are available now from the Tigers ticket office. Call 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or click below to book your place.
