Team GB – including four players from the Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby Team – continued their winning start to the Paralympics with a 60-37 victory over New Zealand on Thursday.
Following up the opening-round win over Canada, Team GB made a strong start to lead 17-5 lead in the first period and were 33-17 in front by half-time in Tokyo before closing out the victory to secure a place in the semi-finals with a game to spare.
Leicester’s Jamie Stead contributed six scores, with Jack Smith, Nick Cummins and captain Gavin Walker, all from the Tigers team, also sharing in the back-to-back victories.
The last of the pool-stage fixtures is against 2016 silver medallists USA on Friday, with the games to determine final classification all scheduled for the weekend at the Yoyogi National Stadium.
